My immaculate 2012 SE 6MT with 65K on clock will net me a bit under $21K if I do the buyback. Does this model being excluded from the emissions repair make it more valuable to enthusiasts due to its rarity?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Nope, take your 21K and run. I paid $17K for my clean 2015 6MT with a 11 yr 162K warranty.

Value will probably only be held in 5-8 years but it'd be the difference of 5K TDI vs 3K 2.5L. You will never get any more money from the car than what VW is offering.

If you're not happy with the car and are committed to driving the car for another 3-5 years racking up the miles (20K+ a year) let VW get a hold of it and laugh all the way to the bank.

2015 Manual Passats are on autotrader in the mid to high teens. Some have as few as 30K miles on them. Given your car is older with a different engine, the buyback is your best deal. Also, the '15s will come with VW's extended emissions warranty, which your car doesn't have.

No. The only person who might be interested is someone who wants to chip it and do a cat-delete. Even then they are not going to offer you a premium for the car. To everyone else it's an orphan. As long as there are 2015 6MTs out there going as cheap as they are, any 2012 to 2014 GEN-2 car will be worth less.

I was thinking the same regarding my 2014. Then I saw what I could buy a 2015 6MT for with the fix and warranty and what VW would give me if I sold my 2014 back. As soon as I bought my replacement car I switched my 2014 from 'fix' to 'sell' and never looked back.
