i guys. been using a gtb2265vklr and emp was high in higher rpm and gears. turbo is now a gtb2271vklr with cut back blades. could a external wastegate be used to reduce emp without having to change to another turbo for a little bit more power?

Show some data on your EMP's vs IMP's before you can determine if that's going to help.

Do you have boost creep at higher RPM's, is your VNT actuator vacuum going to 0 during this period?

I've played with an external wastegate in parallel with a VNT and unless you have boost creep with zero VNT actuator vacuum (assuming your actuator is setup properly), an external wastegate won't help. EMP's will be limited, however boost will fall with it, MAF falls and power goes down and/or smoke increases.

Sounds like the best turbo out there. wg helps when boost creeping on high revs but wont fix the turbo.

First, just because you can cut your turbine into a paddlewheel doesn't mean you should.

adding a wastegate will not get you more mass flow from the reduced EMP, it will just vent exhaust energy past the turbine.
makes sense if you've got something downstream to use that energy like another turbo, or a mechanically governed engine that'll eat itself to death when boost creep sets in.
Doesn't make so much sense when you can choose a larger turbine, and control fueling electronically so you can limit it to what your engine will survive
