For what it's worth, my thoughts on "turbo maintenance", .......bear in mind I'm not a turbo expert.....

1) Use the correct oil, FULL synthetic 5w-40

2) Make sure to run the rpm's up over 3500 at full throttle at least a couple of times per tank of fuel.

3) Don't rev the engine immediately after a cold start.

4) Let the engine idle for a bit before shutting it down, especially immediately after hard acceleration or when pulling a heavy load.

5) Monitor oil levels at every re-fueling.

Note: I have bought several otherwise clean used mk4 tdi's with "blown" turbos.....something that they all shared in common was that at some point in their past life they were run on dino oil.

maxmoo, yeah, that's pretty much exactly as I do, though I look to run the RPMs over 3,500 at least a couple of times each time I drive (did I get this wrong? ;):D)
