I bought a pre-owned 2015 Golf TDi SE. So far I'm thrilled with everything except the garbage tires that the dealer put on when it was turned in. Being that I live in Denver, my plan is to buy a set of lightly used rims/tires from someone who is turning their car in and put proper snow tires on my 16 inchers. That way I can switch them myself each spring and fall without paying a tire guy $60 every time.

Here's where I'm completely ignorant:

Will 225/45/17 from a MK6 fit on my MK7 with 205/55/16? I'm looking at some stock 17 inchers from a 2012 Sportwagon that have a 50mm offset, whereas my rims (according to tirerack.com) have a 40mm offset. Is that going to look funny? Will they bolt on as is?

Thanks for your help!

I'm running MK 5 wheels (17" denvers, in fact!) on my '15 TDI right now. No problems at all.

Plus, they are rather unique looking. :)

B5 Passat, Tiguan and CC wheels will all work too. I have some 2014 wheels on the W8.

I put Twister wheels from a Beetle on mine....no problems at all and (in my opinion) I think they look pretty cool.

Just to update: there are a lot of deals to be had on MK5 and MK6 wheels. I bought a set of 225/45/17 wheels with almost new (<1000 miles) Continentals for a laughable amount of money. The guy turned his car in with steelies and bald winter tires. What I was afraid were a couple of bad wheel bearings turned out to be the $35 tires the dealer put on. Love my Golf even more now!
