On my f350 you just turn the key to the on position several times to prime the lines
But on the tdi u have to use the vcds software to prime

Buy the tool VCDS. If you are going to be doing your own maintenance you will need it. Check Craigslist and the forum here (for sale) for used ones coming on the market. With all the turn ins you may find one. I have occasionally.

Hey I’m new to the TDIs and this forum thing. I grew up working on old fords. I bought a 2003 Jetta TDI automatic ?. I’m between houses with my most recent Air Force move. I just want to bend some ones ear on these diesels. Every time I need work done I have to pay someone (lack of knowledge, place to do work) and it’s breaking the bank and now the car. I just don’t get the lingo, Vag-com, mk4 ?. I want to understand. Call me old school but I like learning from experienced veterans. I’m thinking about a transmission swap, can some one talk me in to or out of it? I own zero Volkswagen tools. Please help

First post, long time lurker. Been doing a lot of reading and homework on owning a TDI.

Unless something changes or someone changes my mind I am planning to purchase a 2016 Audi A6 TDI once the season changes to warmth and sunshine. Don't want to purchase a car with salt on the roads.

In the mean time will be reading and trying to learn as much as I can as I don't plan to keep the car stock either. The wife already has a diesel suv that has been going for quite some time now. I'm ready to make the switch over from gas now myself.

Hello!

I know NOTHING about cars. I know how to point out certain models here and there (appreciations to the men in my life) but I don't know much about the details. I certainly don't know ANYTHING about diesel cars, but I have one. As of July, I am the owner of a 2013 VW Golf TDI. She's pretty! I don't have a picture.. but my car is a four door black hatchback. I'm finding some interesting content on here, and I'm looking forward to learning more about my car and TDI vehicles in general. This is exciting!

a/c clutch issue

I'm new to the forum so not sure if this is the place to ask questions. I have a 2003 jetta tdi that I bought new. I really have enjoyed this car, it runs great and handles great.

I noticed the a/c was not cooling so took it to my mechanic to add refrigerant. He informed me that the a/c clutch was missing.
I went to a junk yard and pulled one and placed on my compressor. I energized the magnet directly from the battery and it "clicked." However, the when I turned on the car the compressor does not engage.

I have read through a number of the forum discussions on things to check. When energized directly from the battery, both fans run on low and on high. I was unsure how to check if the high pressure sensor works, but did find it had continuity (with some resistance) when checked across two of the three wires coming from it. I pulled a high pressure sensor from salvage yard car as well as the fan control module and swapped both items out. Still, nothing working. I also noted that the radiator fans do not come on when the a/c button is pushed and the interior blower is on. Also, I did check the three fuses that were mentioned in various forum discussions.

Any ideas?

Hi TDi fans,

I'm new to the forum and to TDi engines. I'm from South Africa and just bought an Audi A4 1.9TDi (B6, AWX engine). AWESOME car :D, until I ran into idling problems :(. Which section would be best to get some advice?

The TDI 101 section or the Model specific section?

Thanks

Getting ready to take the plunge! TDI swap Toyota p/u

I am a longtime Toyota enthusiast, steeped for decades in the arcana of my favorite 4 x 4 pickups and SUVs, but now I have come to the conclusion that the best engine for my 1993 pickup truck project is a Volkswagen diesel. I am thinking that the engine type BHW out of the 2004 - 2005 North American Market Volkswagen Passat is the right engine for my purposes. One supplier in Canada seems to have a pretty good adapter to mate the Volkswagen engine to my Toyota 5-speed, and another supplier in the US, where I'm located, is getting ready to debut what I think it's shaping up to be some quality components for the swap as well. While I know quite a bit about the Toyotas, having done engine rebuilds and driveline swaps and frame-off restorations myself for years, I have pretty much zero knowledge about Volkswagens. this needs to be rectified in a hurry, because by Spring of 2019 I hope to purchase a good BHW and the necessary supporting components to make the swap a reality. To get up to speed I think I need to get myself a factory manual or some other good service information and start reading to familiarize myself with the information I'm going to need to be successful, and that is why I am here.It looks like the TDI 101 forum is the place where I should be asking my questions,But I will be happy to ask my first question here, which is, what should I be reading in terms of manuals. Should I get a Bentley set or is there something online that would serve me better? or perhaps some other manual that I'm not familiar with. that's all for now, so I will leave you with a picture of the project truck. it's not as good in person, but I think it is a worthy candidate.

The Bentley is, IMO, the best resource among the options.

New to this forum, I use it all the time for valuable information. I’ve got a 05 vw Jetta GLS wagon with the bew and a five speed. I recently changed the clutch from the original dual mass to a signal mass vr6 kit and WOW no more engine shake or shutter from first gear, the old flywheel was so bad it had cracks every couple of inches all the way around and one of the fingers was broken lol I took a 1800km road trip on it before I finally changed it. Got an evo skid plate right after I cracked my fist oil pan. Many upgrades to go.

Picked it up in Denver. $12,5 and only 20k on it. Looking forward to the 30+mpgs.

Everyone else was selling the same thing for the same price but totaled by hail. Mine is flawless!

I'm just here to check out any must do maintenance stuff that's not in the manual. Probably not going to do any mods as it's just for commuting.

I joined TDI Club in 2003 and Kerma was here two years before that. So yes, the man and the company are well known.

Turbina Audi a3 1.9 TDI 130cv

Turbine Audi A3 8l

Hello, I'm new in the forum and I'm not a topic already discussed in the past, I will list my problem and I hope you know how to address me correctly.
I own an Audi a3 8l 1.9 TDI 130hp cod: ASZ, the previous owner has an engine with an identical one of a 2006 Seat Ibiza (I do not know engine code), the car works perfectly.
After several tests I came to the conclusion that I have to replace the turbine.
As you well know, the turbine is not accessible and I can not quite understand the type of turbine I have to mount, at the moment I should have (I'm not sure) the turbine of the 150hp.
Can you advise me that ORIGINAL turbine will mount? if that of 130 or 150? I would kindly like the codes and know if you possibly have a good price.
From a photo he did should be a 1749vb GARRET the turbine that I have now installed and that needs to be changed

This being an intro thread, you may not get the traffic you need for answers. I don't know that model, but try one of the Model Specific forums found here-

Someone will know.

How’s it going guys? My name is Adam! I joined the forum to pick your guys brains on a possible purchase to help save me quite a few bucks. Found what I believe to be a pretty good deal on a 2015 VW Golf TDI Sportswagon Manual! It’s the S trim level so more bare from what I can tell, but still rather nice. Link is at the bottom. My questions are, what do you guys think/anything I should specifically be looking at mechanically or other about these vehicles? And at the end of the day, would you buy a car like this for your wife/husband tomorrow if they needed a reliable car to last them a couple years?

Hi Adam, welcome aboard. your link didn't work, but here's some quick thoughts: We have 2 MkIV TDIs and love them for their simplicity, economy, and fun-to-drive factor. I'm a big fan of the ALH (engine), as are many other's here on Fred's. I will never willingly part with my '03 Golf. That being said, we bought a Mk7 (2015 GSW) for her, and it's great. FE is outstanding, and I think it's so good, I bought one myself (both '15 GSW 6M).

As for the current 2015 cars for sale, the 2.0L CR (common rail) engine from the Mk7 is generally praised, but is also notably complex and has a significant amount of modern emissions equipment (and associated concerns). The reliability of her 2015 GSW has been 100% over 30K miles and 2 years, but not every Mk7 owner has said the same. The 2015's come with an incredible emissions warranty (so be sure you read up on it), and 90% of what you should be checking will apply to every other used car purchase. My number one suggestion is to find the Mk7 (MkVII) threads and read up: http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=94

HTH. Good luck.
