Do you guys know if the OEM MDI cable for the iPhone 5, 6 or iTouch 5 supports audio? I have heard conflicting reports.

I have seen OEM cables and others with headphone jacks. See below.

OEM:

Non-OEM with Head phone jack:

I would obviously like to get the OEM one, but would like to know if it supports audio without having to use the headphone jack one or Bluetooth. I prefer a hard connection (easy boys...) over Bluetooth.

My 30 pin MDI cable supports audio on my older apple devices without an issue. Now that I have upgraded, I would like to get the correct cable.

I bought the OEM VW cable, charges iPhone 6, and 5c, plays audio and such. I listen to podcast more than anything.

I just use an apple 30 pin to lightning adaptor and works fine

I too just bought the little adapter from apple from 30 pin to lightening. Cheaper option and you can use it elsewhere when/if needed.

Can someone tell me the advantage of using the MDI vs. Bluetooth?

I have a nice dash mount, Pro Clip and a short charging cord plugged into the 12v plug in front of the shifter.

Thanks!

Much better sound quality with the MDI interface.

Mine is for the old style iPod and iPhone 4. I keep an old iPod connected but I am wondering if I can replace it with a lighting cable?

I just got an OEM Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter instead of a new MDI cable. Works perfect. I previously bought a knockoff adapter and that didn't work at all.

I was using Bluetooth for a while. I hated it. Sound is always better when it is directly connected (hardwired). I am currently debating this for my home theater system. Wireless has its benefits but sound quality is definitely reduced compared to it being hardwired.

I think I'll go to the Apple Store and buy an adapter.

Thanks for the replies! I hooked mine up with a Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter, sound is good, but I kind of like being able to see my phone.....I'll give it a try.

You can get the cable version of the adapter instead of the small adapter, so you can still "see" your phone.

I switched MDI cables and Radio RCD-510 (Golf '10 Premium8) doesn't recognize the radio. only shows Aux-in. iPhone 6 shows that it's charging. Do I need to have VAGCOM to adapt the radio for the new MDI?

Thanks.
