Here in State College, Pa D2 prices range from $2.65 to $2.75, $2.79 with the highest at $2.82.. Quite a spread.. RUG at most stations is $2.59.. I do have a question though being a new diesel owner.. Why is the spread for diesel fuel much greater than RUG??.. In most cases, RUG is gernerally priced the same or just a few cents difference at fuel stations in a given area.. Yet, diesel seems to have prices which vary more... Just interested if someone knows why this may be... Thanks..

ULSD - $2.379 @Southern States by Shannon Airport; B10 - $2.539 @Quarles Shell, I should have purchased B10

It's $2.49 here in most of the Shell stations here. For some reason i have lots of Shell stations near where i live. :)

I do hear good things about Shell Diesels though :)

Seeing gas come way down the last week or so. I saw today that it was down to $2.39 at some stations in my area, whereas diesel was still at $2.65. Hopefully that starts coming down as well again, but it's sure better than the price has been the last couple years.

ULSD - $2.429 @Southern States by Shannon Airport; B5 - $2.459 @Quarles Shell at I-95 & Route 3, One car at each place. Winterized ULSD is only B5 vice B10 the rest of the year.

Ouch! #2 still pricey here in Northern CA, paid $2.84 at a Pilot station on I-5 south of Williams and that's the lowest I've seen.

As above, why the large spread in prices nationally? Higher gasoline prices in CA are always justified / explained by higher / different mixes to meet emission standards -- but that doesn't apply to diesel. So why is it the highest here, and are there any "real" reasons for this cost structure?

The eastern two-thirds of the country is connected by pipelines, or close enough to seaports to be part of the same market. But the west coast is a totally separate market, so shortages or surpluses in the east do not have any real impact in the west. California is more affected by demand in Asia than by what happens east of the Mississippi.

Gila Bend is probably even cheaper -- anyone traveling west toward California, that is your last chance to get reasonably-priced fuel.

The lowest ULSD diesel price around here is $2.569 in Brattleboro Vermont at the Irving station. In my small town of 550 souls we have a Mobil station/convenience store. ULSD there is $2.609

Cheapest around here (Portland, OR) is 2.599 out at Chevron on Sandy Blvd.

Last summer I sat back after filling my tundra, boat, and taurus wagon and spending $250 on gas. There had to be a better way.

Here I am today spending about $50 on diesel every two weeks, and collecting 15 gallons of WVO every week. LOVE my diesels.

Fuel prices are going up. Today's EIA report showed a sharp drop in refinery utilization, for good reason as the RBOB crack spread is barely above zero. Distillate inventories dropped slightly, they were expected to rise slightly. Gasoline inventories fell much more than expected.

In June and August, the December crude oil contract bumped into a ceiling at around the $76-77/barrel price. Today it has broken through that technical barrier and may rise rapidly toward $80, $85, $90 or higher. Distillates such as diesel will probably rise faster than gasoline, for seasonal factors.

So the $2.56-2.60 prices for diesel around here are likely to climb soon toward $2.75 and then $3.00. The bulls are on a rampage and, while Geitner's Treasury Department will talk about supporting the dollar, they do not actually plan to do a thing.

European prices are about a euro per litre at best (varies from 0,84 to 1,20), so about $5,67 per US gal.
So, when in Europe, bring your own diesel. Yes, it's heavily taxed.

Just paid $2.699 for Diesel at Chevron Station. Utah has some of the highest gas/diesel prices in the country and we have many refineries as well.
Yes, but you cannot take advantage of surpluses in other parts of the country. I think you are mostly self-sufficient.

I am new at this, I have noticed a big decrease in my MPG since moving to Texas from PA (season or heat never mattered in PA) My 2002 and 2006 TDI's averaged between 42-50, now here in Texas it is 38 - 46, and burns more on idle than in past. Mexico Diesel is great, at 65 - 70 mph I get between 55-60 over a 6 hour period on super high ways, but tails drastically around Mexico City in the Mountains.

My 2006 best MPG is found between 55-60mph (46-48), but I get my 42+ while averaging a bit faster than that. My best in the 2006 TDI is 48.6 mpg last year on our evacuation from SOuth Texas to Philadelphia during IKE.

At current exchange rates, that comes out to $3.79 USD per gallon.

On the drive from Denver to S.CAL , St. George & Richfield UT are the cheapest place to fill on the drive . Everywhere south & west of there is .20-.50 a gal more expensive for gas & diesel .

On the drive from Denver to the east MO , KY , VA & Tenn are the cheapest in that order .

So what you are saying is that Europe is not as glamorous as we americans tend to believe?

Buy a gas powered vehicle and pay heavy insurance premiums and taxes due to emissions or buy a diesel and pay heavy taxes on the fuel.

Point taken.

Thanks for the heads up. :D LOL
