Ticking Sound

09 Jetta TDI that has 71k miles on it so far just started making a ticking sound yesterday.
It almost sounds like a lifter ticking. The ticking sound follows the RPM's of the car. I pulled in the drive way opened the door and gave it a few small revs and it matched the RPM's

Going to try to look around today to see what it is. Any thoughts??

mmm,i dont think it will be a lifter as theyre normally good engines. Try and get a long screwdriver & put the handle part to your ear & touch blade end on various surfaces(ie pump,injectors etc) & see if you can narrow it down anymore.Injectors when failing can give the type of sound youre describing exactly. You should be able to tell if its this by doing the screwdriver thing(stethoscope).Bit of a waste guessing mate as could be a good few things

Well I started it later on in the day to go out and the noise is gone for right now. Either that or its faint enough I can't hear it over the engine.
