Started it, let it run for 5 min while waiting for kids..

Started driving in D as normal, not s/sport.

Mayne 3 miles into my trip, waiting at a light, started to give it some throttle, a very mild grandma's style of acceleration and get going, mid turn, engine started to Rev high, like it wasn't shifting.

Dash said 2 instead of D, even through selector was over to the left, and I guarantee I didn't bump a paddle switch.

So I backed off, engine dragged holding 2nd. Gave it throttle, and it easily went up to 4000 again. ***?? Dash still saying 2 when in D...

I rolled like a turtle without blowing the engine, and it really stayed and held 2nd like the shifter was flipped to the right.

So that's when I flopped the stick right, then left, and it showed D as expected, and hasn't acted up 100 miles later...

2300 miles total so far on the car.

So I fired up Ross Tech, and Holy ****!

I had the gear start selector code when the car was new, like 53 miles on the odo new. Seems to me there's a flaky wiring harness or connection.

But the ****ing dealer won't do anything without an active "light" on the dash. All I can do is explain what happened and see if they'll scan the gearbox module....

Dealer "scanned" and "found no codes"... But I've been tokd this and has car come back with the codes still stored, or cleared, without confirmation if it was intermittent from ignition cycles or actual command issued..

Anyways...

So, I plan to drive it until gearbox dies or malfunctions so bad its not drivable (electrical or mechanical)

I was asked if I bought an extended warranty. I said no, the best warranty in my opinion is no warranty. A warranty of any type means you're guaranteeing me the vehicle will break, and a promise I'm buying a piece of ****.

He seemed offended.

I said "what??, this is the 6th time it's been in your shop in the past 2000 miles! Speaks for itself!"

Well, idling today at lunch hour, "P" kept blinking randomly on the dash until I moved the selector. A rescan shows all those codes again.

How the F can I get the dealer to investigate this???

Gotta love the simplicity of a manual trans. I remember the manager at the dealership telling me how his wife hated the dsg in their jsw. He said it would often hesitate, then lurch forward from a quick start. Maybe try taking it to another dealer.

just got back from dealer. no light, no codes, no fix. told me to stop in again when it happens again.

in all honesty, i believe it's just a loose wiring harness. i'm getting the same codes randomly. but they won't act upon until they see a stored code, and the gearbox won't technically flag it because it eventually comes back, and they won't accept my scan results because it's not official VW tools...

Next time let them tow it in. Mention that it is unsafe to drive this way. Print the codes out and bring them as well as include them in a letter to VWOA.

Make a video of it and show it to the dealer next time it happens .It will help you to prove your case.

Jason,

Do I understand this is a car you just bought? - with only 2,300 miles?

Not a car you bought before Sept 2015?

If this is a *old* new car, I am wondering if there was some issues with the storage.

But can't even imagine what they could have done to cause a DSG problem

Weren't those DSG trans made in Germany. Mine was.

I'd gamble it's a wiring harness/connector. It seems it's the Only explanation of a slew of related gear codes, that all pop up at once together, intermittently, and using the shifter frequently to go from p/d/r in a 30mim drive, 1 ignition cycle, obviously let's it make connection with the data bus again, and hence won't store codes because it isn't a hard fail (total connection loss)

That my educated guess.

There is a possibility it's supposed to have those codes? But no one is suggesting that, with or without evidence, reason, or explanation.

Can fellow '15 (other years?) DSG owners scan your gearbox module and check?

funguy

Thx

.....and

poor storage issue(s)

I just rote a review for Edmonds on my TDi

The gist -- VW TDi Golf = 5 stars -- but the *stored* left overs are to be checked out to the MAX

I personally would only get a *new* '15 from an original owner. A car that was in normal use for the last 2-3 years.

Forgot to answer, yeah, it's a parking lot sit.

April '17 bought it with 53 miles on the ticker.

It was a sloppy flash and rush to the lot. But the other 6 it was sitting next to already sold that morning. So I jumped. But since it's a full blown warranty. I was under the impression I'd get any issue resolved under warranty, I didn't think I'd be having the issue of getting warranty work initiated! ! Only thing that's dated this year is the battery.

Between my buyback refund and how much I talked him down, plus my 3 month of tripled payments, only $2900 left on it.....

Haha, I have more on the odometer then the balance. That'll never happen again.

As much as it stinks doing work yourself on a new car, can you at least pull the battery/tray intake and take a peak see at the wiring, I believe the connector to the DSG is under the fuse box drivers side wheel well area. I'd much rather spend 20 min poking around in my garage, then waiting at the dealer for 1 minute.

One thing that may stink royally is that if there is wiring damage, proving it was during storage while under VWs ownership vs if damage happened after you purchased it. Yeah VW should save face and admit it happened before you bought the car, but they "performed their pre-purchase inspection" and verify the car was fit to drive.

Also what is the failure mode of the metronics unit? Back in the 09-10 DSG they had a bad batch of units that had warranties extended. Is this the same failure mode?

I have documented email conversations with these codes copy and pasted to the salesman that worked with me, when the mileage was under 500. I shouldn't have an issue if it is exposed copper somewhere.

Hi,
These codes happen when you read dsg faults with engine running.

Try reading them with key-on / engine-0ff, and they will be gone.

I saw this several times after tuning new dsg's. no worries. It may be a vagcom thing, since they all disappear on their own.

Jeff

btw, have you checked dsg oil temp after hard driving? or tried clutch recalibration, and reset defaults (with vagcom). I know you shouldn't need to do any of this on a new car but I did it to mine, and no problems but peace of mind.

I have only done code pulls with engine running. I haven't done any parameter resets or adaption initiations yet. I thought about it, but I drcided to have that be a last idea. Think I should?

It can't hurt.

Also you trying to pull codes with the engine running, thus causing the codes, might explain why the dealer couldn't replicate.

Actually, I've scanned it before engine running and they wouldn't show up. I'll try it with engine off and see what results are.
