Default Gauging Interest: Polar FIS+

I am gauging interest to see if members would be interested buying a Polar FIS+ device new shipped for $265. If there is enough interest, I will register as a vendor and post up a formal ad within the group buys section.

Moderators: I just want to test the waters before doing all of the vendor registration work. Hope this is okay.

That is a great price! I paid well over $300 for mine last year (about $325 shipped, IIRC). Needless to say, I'm not interested in another one, but I would be surprised if you can't sell them fairly easily at that price. Good Luck!

Have Fun!

I like the pun. And I'm interested if this will work in an '09 JSW. Subscribed to thread.

Yes, it works perfectly in my '09 JSW. Here are a few (crappy cell phone) pics.

When you install (or update) the firmware, you install either the file for a red MFD or a white one (2006-2009 or 2010+). Separate firmware is required because the communications protocol (with the instrument panel) is different between a MkV and a MKVI (red or white MFD display).

Have Fun!

Don

P.S. Ignore the negative boost reading in the first pic. I had a configuration selection wrong. It works correctly now.

That is a good question. It is not currently listed as a supported vehicle at auto-Polar's website. Your best chance of getting any real answer would be to post this question on the Auto-Polar forum here: http://www.auto-polar.com/forum/forum.php

Have Fun!

Install is not bad. There is a write-up on the forums somewhere.

In theory, it's really easy. You unplug a plug and stick the wire that comes with the device in between the plug and socket you just unplugged.
In practice, it's a little bit harder. First you have to lay on the floor under the steering wheel (with your butt hanging out the door), you have to remove a few torx screws and remove an under dash plastic cover. Then you have to reach up above the brake pedal and find the plug (not too hard) and unplug it. This is not as easy as it sounds because it usually takes 2 hands, one to pull the plug out and one to push the little locking tab in. There is not a lot of room down there if you have long arms. Then the hardest part is plugging in the connector on the Polar harness. They say it is the same connector VW uses (from the same manufacturer) and I have no reason to doubt their word, but many people (including me) have had problems getting that plug fully inserted into the CAN gateway. It is a tight fit and it can require a lot of force. Make sure that the connector firmly snaps into place. If this connector is not fully plugged in a whole lot of stuff doesn't work (including your car). If this happens to you, you better have access to VCDS so you can clear all of the fault codes it will generate. Mine now works perfectly, and I love it, but here's more about my installation adventure if you are interested. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.p...&postcount=107

Have Fun!

I am pretty that the only one they currently sell is the PF03. I believe that the PF02 was just an older model - which they still support with updates. The Auto-Polar website does not list the PF02 as a current product for sale, they only talk about the latest (KESSY enabled) FIS+ Advanced.

Have Fun!

Good news everyone, the group buy is a GO! If you are interested, please PM me with your Name & Email address.

The group buy will be through Les of German Diesel Motorwerks. Everyone knows him and his excellent work. He's a vendor here, so all payments will be through him. I will be sending a PM to everyone who said they were interested.

As Don has so aptly written, the Polar FIS+ unit Model PF03, will work in our SportWagens. If you have any questions about the unit and capabilities / compatibility, please read up on http://www.polarteam.net/en/home/65-...-advanced.html

Thx everyone!
