Radio operates independently of the key

I have a 2001 jetta with an OEM radio that has to be turned off manually - removing the key doesn't shut it off anymore. It will turn itself off after maybe 15 minutes whether the car is on or not. Any ideas? The radio is the tapedeck/single CD player. Thanks for any help.

I think mine does the same thing, but I will have to double check. I do know that I can turn the radio on with the ignition OFF.

Try to gently wiggle the key in the ignition when you remove it - there is an internal switch that might be stuck, and it doesn't know you removed the key.
