Instrument Cluster

Hi, my instrument cluster needs repair on my 2003 Jetta with only 56,000 miles on it. that seems like awfully low mileage for such an expensive repair. Has anyone else had a problem like this. When I called VW customer service, they (after talking to my dealer) offered to pay for 50% of parts and labor. That kind of makes me think that there's a factory problem lurking out there.

Any help?
Claudia

The 2002 New Beetle had its instrument cluster replaced with a refurbished unit rather early, I believe at about 20,000 miles under warranty. Its been fine since with 143,000 miles on the car. The odometer function did not change.

I think its rather pricey, so having the dealer split it with you may be a good deal. Otherwise, getting one from the junk yard may cause a problem with the odometer function.

Thanks, I ended up having the dealer do the work with VW footing half the bill, just wondered how common that kind of problem was.
