History:
Obviously a lot of highway miles. Jet has been meticulously maintained over the years and there are a lot of great memories, gas mileage and disbelief among non TDI owners as to the longevity. Age finally did catch up to her and I decided to buy a Passat during the VW diesel emissions scandal. I was going to buy a diesel but there were none to buy. I also bought a similar 2002 gray std wagon (325,000) that ran well and was going to be given to my son but he didn't want a standard and his mother gifted him hers. I will be selling that in a different post.[/I]
The reason I took her off the road was because of these issues:
Air conditioning. It stopped working and none of my mechanics could figure out why.
The car started every time and ran well but a stuck turbo robbed it of it's normal power.
The rear driver's side axle bushing needed to be replaced
The ever-annoying Glow plug warning light was on and it was inspection time[/LIST]The sunroof stopped working properly
Over the past 2 years I have been starting her with less and less frequency.
The battery which was new has become useless and I think the alternator is the cause of that. So I tried to jump it and for the first time ever I could not get her to turn over.
The positives are the tires have maybe 5000 on them. One of the rim seals has a slow leak that requires a new seal or fill up every week.
The body is in excellent shape. Someone ran into the side of the car when it was brand new and the passenger door was replaced because the door started to rust where the repair was made. I also replaced the front passenger panel. I replaced the clouded headlight units with new aftermarket ones.
The transmission, believe it or not, is original. Even though the transmission is a sealed unit my TDI Club recommended mechanic (Chris from Braintree) replaced the fluid 3 times and the speed sensor twice. Transmission is good.
I kept the gray cloth interior immaculate and it is in very good shape. I replaced the driver seat because it was worn out.
All electronics including the sound system work well with exception of what I have already described.
The engine was replaced with a brand new VW engine from the dealer when I waited too long to replace the timing belt at 105,000. The timing belt needs to be done in another 15,000 or so. It was done at 205, 305 and 405.
I am hoping to find a good home for her within the TDI community. It will need to be towed unless you want to replace the battery and alternator in my yard. There is no snow on the ground yet lol.
