Ancient thread price change bumpola!
I had had it with the OE stereo in my Jetta, but didn't want to hack up the dash to upgrade. I went to Crutchfield and bought this system. I liked it so much that I transplanted it to the Passat when I bought it. It fits perfectly in the double DIN opening in the A4 Jetta and B5.5 (probably B5 as well) Passats, with no modifications, and the wiring is simple. The system consists of:
The KRC-535 head unit: AM/FM/Cassette receiver, with security motorized face plate,
KDC-D301 single CD player, with graphic display, and
KTC-SR902 Sirius satellite radio receiver.
You can adjust the output of the head unit to match a number of different speaker types, and it has a full range of audio controls: Bass, treble, midrange, balance, fader, and volume offset, as well as equalizer types like Jazz, Top40, Rock, etc. It can also be security coded for theft deterrent; I never did this. All Sirius functions can be controlled from the head unit, including 18 satellite presets. The CD is also controlled from the head unit. There is a remote control for the unit which has rarely been used. The faceplates of both the head unit and the CD can be removed, and kept in hard protective cases. The newer units just have cloth bags.
The Sirius receiver is small and can be mounted under the dash or other close by hiding places. The antenna shown in the photograph is the small TERK version, but I'll include the original larger one as well. Both have long leads to let you put it wherever you like. I was perfectly satisfied with it just placed on the dash of the Passat. It stayed put and didn't scratch the dash.
There are pictures of all of the components, how it looked in the Passat, and the wiring at THIS LINK
The wiring harness is currently mated to the Crutchfield plug for the Passat, but I have the harness for an A4 Jetta also. If you have the Jetta, the leads will not be soldered; if you have a Passat, you'll be able to plug it in and go. (My car had the Monsoon system, but I don't think there's a difference in the plug if your car does not. You could ask Crutchfield.) Included is the VW antenna adaptor for either car. The leads are properly color coded, and the ones from the radio itself are labeled as to function. I have the manuals for all three pieces, as well as the Crutchfield installation instructions for either car. They'll be shipped in the original Kenwood boxes.
My original cost on the set was $550. I was originally asking $235 shipped. PRICE DROP to $150 shipped (Obviously PayPal or MO are fine for payment) Anybody local (near Charlotte), can save the shipping. PM me here or email me here with any questions. Thanks!
