Default Golf 1.6 limp mode and P0087 fault

Hi Everyone,

New forum Member looking for some guidance from fellow members.

I have a 2010 1.6TDI Golf Match that has suddenly developed a problem, whilst cruising down motorway (60MPH) i accelerated in 5th and the car lost power and when into limp mode with flashing glow plug and workshop warning on dash. i continued to drive to my destination in limp mode (had a flight to catch so had to ensure i got to destination). upon switching the engine off, the fault lights went off and no further limp mode. i left the car parked for 4 days and then drove back home. upon start up, the car was fine and no noises and power and boost seemed ok, but after 10 mins of driving, the same fault appeared and limp mode was active again.

When i got home switched the engine off and once again the warning lights and messages disappeared. i had a friend scan the codes present on the car and got the following codes. P0087 (low fuel rail Pressure) and P229A (pressure regulation valve 2 control difference).

the fuel filter has been changed and is clean, no metal debris in filter container and also has not been ran low on fuel.
Ive also noticed that the car runs fine and boosts ok when cold, but as soon as the car is up to temperature this fault kicks straight back in. it also makes a noise kind of similar to injectors being starved of fuel.

have you guys any suggestions?

thanks for reading
