My 2000 Jetta TDI with 235k miles on it just had the exhaust system separate at the aft end of the catalytic converter due to excessive vibration. I thought about ordering a down pipe and cat. converter from ID parts.com and changing it myself, but after looking at the limited space to work in where it connects to the turbo and trying with no luck to remove the clamp where the assembly connects aft of the converter, I'm having second thoughts. Even after soaking the clamp nuts in AeroKroil, they didn't loosen, and the bolts wound up spinning. I figure that after 235k miles even if I get the clamp off, the pipes would still be stuck together.
If any one has knowledge of a good exhaust shop (not a dealer) in the Baltimore-Annapolis area, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.
