So I was watching the F1 Japan Grand Prix and during the first few laps when the cars were all tooling around behind the safety car my mind started to wonder. Below is an abstract of some thoughts that popped up.

My 2010 A3 is a pretty small car it cant weight that much more than an F1 car right? Wrong A3 3318lbs curb weight, F1 car 1521lbs. It weighs over twice as much.... *** F1 cars weight nothing.

This is where my thought process went off the rails a bit.... read with caution.

Hmmm... payload.
yup 2010 A3 payload = 1102 lbs...that's close enough for me,,,, I could totally haul a 2014 F1 car with my A3 TDI.... ill just strap it on the roof and maybe get better down force.

hmm. and fuel economy/cost.
Me = 33.5 mpg (city observed) @ $3.75 (locally). it would cost me (53 laps * 3.608 miles = 191.224 miles / 33.5 MPG =5.7 USgal of fuel used). $21.405 in fuel to complete the full race.
F1 Car = 3.1 MPG @ Lets just say they are using standard pump gas (we all know they are not) $3.65 locally. 191.224 miles/3.1mpg(from a wiki) = 61.68 USGal = $225.132 in fuel to complete a full race.

I think that My A3 would still be more fuel efficient driving around the circuit WITH the F1 Car Strapped to the top of it... now who wouldn't pay to see that?
