Aquired an '05 Passat GL Wagon TDI with 160K this week. Having the following issues which may or may not be related and would welcome any pointers to resolving.

1. Remote and non remote key will lock front doors but not rear doors. Rear doors need to be locked manually by pushing down lock buttons.
2. Using key in door to roll down windows works except for rear passanger side window which does not move.
3. Using key on door to close windows will result in windows moving a little, then stopping, then moving again a little and finally passenger front and driver side rear will close fully but drivers window will stop at half way.
4. Using internal window controls work as expected for drivers windows but rest operate a little at a time (except for passenger side rear window which does not work in any circumstances).
5. Opening car with key in drivers door works for all but rear passenger door. However, if I use remote to unlock, alarm goes off and only driver's door opens.
5. Seems like rear tailgate can only be unlocked by using control on drivers door.
5. Alarm seems to go off intermittently several times for no reason with car locked and parked in Garage over night.

It's clear to me me that at some stage bodywork was done on passenger side rear door....nothing works (locking or windows) on that door. Perhaps something is still broken there or not connected properly.
Could the intermittent alarm issue be caused by a poor battery in remote ? How do I determine if battery is ok.

Any pointers welcolmed. Thanks

I suspect you have 2 or more problems
The rear door lock modules are prone to failure
They are about $400 ea IIRC- salvage parts are an option
Modules from an ALH will work, but you have to reuse the longer cables from the old ones
I also suspect you may have corroded wires at or near the CCM under the front passenger side carpet. VW makes repair wires, to cut and splice.
Some one more knowledgeable may chime in.
Your issues are not uncommon

An intermittent signal from a door switch could set off the alarm I guess. I need to do my driver door switch, and ecstuning has that for $100. Seems like you already know which door to start with. VCDS will show door switch state which helps because then you know what the car sees.

There are just too many to list....
A scan tool will tell you a lot more. I'd start there. But as stated, if the sunroof or cowl drains have been neglected, you can get water in the floor areas, and on the driver's side under the seat is where the CCM lives.

Yep, scan and check underneath driver's carpet to see if it is wet or has been wet.

InOp rear door locks can also just be the door lock module being stuck/binding. I have had several cars like this in particular when the rear doors were used very little. I tried lubricating them but to no avail

Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, car does not have a sun roof so no water leakage there. Floor is dry.

Resurrecting my original post on Door/Electrical Issues. Unfortunately, I did not have time to do much investigation of these electrical door/window/alarm issues and since the car continued to operate I guess I just got use to these issues .I now have VCDS and ran a scan (below) and did investigate rear passenger door and confirmed that it was replaced (inside of door being a different color was the hint :) ) and checked that everything was connected ok at the pillar and on the door connections. The wiring all looks intact (still covered in factory tape) except for lower door speaker wires which were not working. The tweeter speaker had live wire so I just piggy backed off those to power the lower door speaker (kinda a hack, but got sound.). Other weird happenings.

1. Every now and then instrument panel resets (all lights, beeps, odometer etc) but car keeps running.
2. Rear interior light will randomly come on which can be kinda spooky at night when alone.
3. Reverse lights never worked.
4. Clicking noise as if turn signals are on (but are not) will occasionally go into 'tirade mode - keeps clicking for up to an hour) and then never happens until six months later ...

....my family think the car is 'possessed' and wont drive it unless absolutely
necessary :)

Car does not have a Sun Roof and carpet is dry....I keep checking, especially after rain.

Anyhow, as some pointed out I probably have several issues going on so hopefully interpretation of the scan data can give me path to start down. Appreciate any guidance and thanks to those who already chipped in.

What I learned from my similar problem:

More than one thing can be faulty, door lock module AND wires/CCM both.

Even though carpet feels dry, the padding is so thick, it can hold a lot of water, so one must pull it up to be sure. Then got to check the splices near the CCM, very vulnerable to letting go. I think if the 5 into 1 splice is loose, it's a wild card of error codes.
