Fuel issue

2003 jetta mk4, it runs out of fuel as soon as it's less or around half tank as I was told by owner, I have not yet confirmed it because i don't wanna run out of fuel as I'm on my way somewhere. Anyone ever run into a situation like this? I have not confirmed that fuel gauge might be wrong. Sending unit might be junk? Any help would be appreciated

I would check the sending unit first. Easy to get to under the rear seat. You should be able to find posts here detailing how to access it and what to check/do while you are there. Here is some reading:
