Has anyone fitted 245/45-18 (Conti ExtremeContactDW, specifically)? Any clearance issues? Seems the closest clearance is at the top of the fronts, by the struts. I measure about 5/8" / .625" clearance with stock Hankooks. The 245s are (theoretically) about .2" wider.

Please share if you've done so. I've already read all the "why do you want a performance tire on a diesel... bla bla" replies on similar threads. Answer is simple. I drive on southern California freeways. I need the shortest braking and best emergency response I can get - 'nuf said. :)

By math, 235= 9.25 inches wide, 245= 9.64 inches wide. The tire will be 0.4 inches wider and also 0.35 inches taller. The taller translates into the tire being half that number taller where it rubs, so say 0.17 inches, the width is what you said on each side about the0.2 inches. It might be OK.

For stopping and cornering improvements and no risk of rubbing, get e higher speed rating, they are usually stickier.

I changed up from 235x45x18 OEM Hancook tires to 235x55x18 General Altimax RT43 for more cushioning. Hated the OEM tires for noise and feel every tiny bump on the road!
General and Continental is the same manufacturer. In a tire comparison the Altimax RT43 were rated just below Michelin and given best bang for the buck rating.

My old next door neighbor was a manager for a tire company and let me in on that secret... this was 15 years ago when i was a newly married poor man. I was about to but 120 per tire Michelins and he told me about the General tires he carried that were literally half that cost. 700,000 miles on 2 a4 saved me a LOT of money over the years. Great tires and can almost always find some great deals.
