I don't think any 4-door Golf TDIs in NA had crank windows.
I was the "underbidder", and I was happy that I didn't "win" based on reading about the crank windows, but now, my mindset is back to 'oh, crap'. :)
I was going to sell my '99.5 two door Golf w/a seized engine and replace it with the dinged '01. Easier to do body work, than pulling an engine.
That's show biz...

I have crank windows in my 01 Jetta and prefer them over power windows in my other 3 ALH TDI’s. I also bid $500 on John’s Golf plus $850 shipping to my house in Missouri. That was beyond common sense for a wrecked car, so thanks to the someone that topped my offer.

MKIV Jetta TDI Sedans had crank windows, as did very few Wagons. I have one. And 2-door Golfs had them, except in '03. 2002 was the last year any VW in the US had crank windows.
