20th anniversary seats with side bolster airbag deployed

I can get these for a good price, but is it worth it?

I'm wondering if I can just salvage the airbag out of my current black cloth seats, and see if a reupholstery shop can just restitch it for me.

I'm thinking maybe shops won't touch it due to liability.

I searched a couple years back, and zero upholstery shops were willing to restitch an airbag seat, they said they purposely do not carry the special thread that's supposed to be used.

Of course this was just after the big Takata air bag scandal/news stories.

I would be careful buying seats with deployed airbags. I had a set of mint 20th seats in my Golf tdi and was rear ended hard enough that the floor pan bent and entire car buckled. This tripped the side impact sensors and deployed all the side airbags. Later after the accident, I disassembled the seats with plans to mix and match parts from another poor condition set and found that the seat base had also buckled and twisted. This wasn't readily apparent when they were sitting in my garage.
