Strut mount issue

My golf has had an upper suspension clunk since I bought it.

I've located the problem, but am as of yet usure of how to repair it.

Essentially the strut mount does not hold itself properly to the strut towers.

What am I missing?
Did the previous owner misassemble the strut?

I've seen worse. It's nothing to worry about. There's a big rubber mount that wears out and basically gets squished, making the gap start to appear. So to fix it, you have to pull the strut out and then reassemble with all with the new mount. TDIparts has some Sachs ones for like $15 a side or somewhere close to that.

So I should order and replace (2 of) the following item?
