My stock head is toast. I can't seem to find any vendors supplying heads. Anyone know where to start?

What happened? Did your timing belt break?

I'll send you a PM. How do you know the head is shot?

Yep TDI Frank06 is good to do business with.

The car is in warranty no?

Considering the situation with buyback and all, I might suggest finding a
used engine and swapping it out. You might get a stripped down, long
block for less than $2000. In Memphis independent VW shop "Wolfsburg"
will swap it out for you... about $2000 (guessing). Your used engine may
be lower mileage. You may even get one with all the goodies, HPFP, Turbo,
Intake valve....

OK let's take a head swap. If you can get a good one, that is say $800-
$1000. The gasket, new bolts (a must) will be $200. Labor if you have it
done, $1000-$1500. While you are at it, timing belt, water pump, $400. So
the total is $2500 to $3000. Difference between a head swap only and
engine swap is small.

If TDI Frank does not have a head, you will have a hard time finding one
that is in good shape. A running engine from a salvaged car is safer in my
opinion.

$1599 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Golf-2-0-Tu...ash=item2ef1acc830:g:jAMAAOSw3mpXGQ1b&vxp=mtr

This has turbo and throttle valve and cover, 2012, 35K miles.... WINNER!!!!

Like most sellers they nit pick parts off it, missing turbo, throttle valve. The one above
even has flywheel! I lucked out and got a 2013 engine with 1K miles at the end of 2014
for $2500 with all the parts, except DPF. I begged them for it.... JSW vs Jetta sedan
are the same CJAA engine except the wiring harness is slightly different length. You
just transfer the harness.

His serpentine belt shredded and took out the timing belt. So probably valve damage I'm guessing.

It doesn't mean he needs a new head. But ya, I would remove the VC and cam and check for shattered/spiders webbed lifters. If any are found, pull the head.

CJAA is roller cam, not flat tappet like TDIs from 10 years ago.... And you can easily wreck valves without causing visible damage to lifters.

It is more odd than that. The cam shafts are hollow and the cam lobes are pressed on. The cam lobes actually can twist. Which puts the cam timing off. The valves and piston meet perfectly flat. Depending on engine speed and other factors there can be no damage. Happened to me. No damage. I did compression check (leak down) it was OK (after engine was swapped*). Then I had head-off and brought to local head shop. Last I checked the cam timing. It was fine. (*Dealer was incompetent, got lawyer, settled). Now I have a 35K mile 2013 engine in my 2010 with 86K miles. I sold engine off.

Before removing head you should install new belt, do compression test. If that is good... you lucked out.
