98 jetta head lights

my 98 jetta head lights went out going to work. What a ride A quick toggle with the dimmer got me some lights on high. Finally the light came on . Has any one had that happen the lights went out on high or low beam . Thanks Jim

Did you try toggling the hi/low beam switch?

Either the headlight switch or turn signal stalk switch. Headlight switch is cheap enough to replace. The turn signal stalk, not so cheap. By, they are both doable with reasonable caution and tools.

At first i toggled the turn signals an that did not seem to make a difference next the light switch. Finally i tapped on the fuse box and or on top of the relays and the lights stayed on . Not sure what was the problem. Thanks Jim

Sounds like you kicked a fuse and it came loose or something like that. Or your headlight relay is getting sticky and isn't toggling. Take it out, tap it on something and put it back in. If it does it again, it might be time for a new relay.
