Hi everyone, thought I'd post a success story. I just bought a 2002 TDI wagon, Automatic, 186,000. The Check Engine Light came on just after I handed the dealer cash. It started not shifting properly. It didn't want to upshift unless the engine was revving at about 3200 RPM (in all gears).

Got a 00281 code saying the vehicle speed sensor (G68) was bad.

With a $56 part and an easy few hours of work, I was back on the road with good shift patterns and no CEL.

Thanks and good luck!
