3.0L TDI performance

My Father has recently bought a 2006 A4 3.0L TDI SE Quattro and finds it has less performance than his old year 2000 1.9TDI 115BHP below 1800rpm. Is this normal for the 3.0L as it has vast amounts of power above these revs or is there anything that could be done to improve on this?

Stateside we are denied that car, so no direct experience. But I'll make a wild guess. If the engine uses a variable vane turbo, the vanes may be stuck. If stuck, they may prevent turbo from making boost at lower rpm. On the 4 bangers we are allowed to drive, the mechanism for the vanes can be tested for motion with a thick skinned thumb. -Eric

Here is one more guess. The bigger motor takes longer stokes so it takes longer to get going. Once is is moving along it gets it on!

Remember this is only a guess.
