Re: USA Today Article on diesels 1/29

Interesting read and nice to see mention in the mainstream. I did not know there would be a TDI Passat in the states, but this article says there will. Also, they incorrectly state the VW SUV as the Phaeton - should be the Toureg (right?).

Thanks for posting!

The Phaeton is VW's flagship sedan. I don't think a diesel version is planned even though it would be an interesting idea. Look at Mercedes S class 400 CDI, Audi A8 3.3 TDI or BMW 740d.

The Touareg is the SUV which will hopefully available with the "monster" TDI for the states, too.

It's going to take at LEAST until 2006 to change public perception toward diesels.

By then, they will be stronger, cleaner, quieter, more efficent, offered in many more models by many more companies, will more likely run on biodiesel, and have a much more receptive audience - especially if prices and/or supply of gasoline/fuel look scary, and they become just another choice among a mounting list of hybrids, gassers, fuel cell, electric, and perhaps some other breakthrough.

We be livin' in excitin' times.
