i'm working about making my own diagnostic system for my 1900 TDI 110 hp swapped into a vanagon. i already have done the interface between iso9141 interface from the ECU and RS232.
the difficulty now is to communicate with the ECU.
does anyone have ideas about the command to be sent to the ECU to communicate with it ?

It seems that software at obd-2.com and obdii.com can be downloaded. The product they really sell is the translator between the connector and the pc. I wonder if the software would provide some clues?

What do you mean when you said you've done the interface?

Since all this obdii is more or less standardized, there must be some standards somewhere? Would that be ISO?

Please keep us appraised of your progress. I'm sorry I can't help any more but this is very interesting (to me anyway).

Try... You're on thin ice with communication, though...

Btw: I've seen the new SIEMENS all-in-one diagnostic-measuring-updating unit (computer).
It is called VAS 5051, looks like a black box wih a 15 inch touch LCD, CD, floppy. Works with audi, skoda, seat, vw.

- all kinds of connectors (including IR)
- all sorts of measurements possible (built-in oscilloscope)

This baby rules. Can anyone get some more real info?

Mitja,

I went to the Siemens website, searched, and found this site:

Click on the overview for the specs of the system.

In reply to Karl
with a motorola MC33199 you can make an interface between RS232 and ISO9141 K and L line.
VW TDI ECU have only K-line.
thanks for your reply, any information about this subject is wanted.

If you can make a device that can have all the functionality of the vw tools at a low price, you will have a good market. I am seriously thinking about buying the $130 obd-2 software, but it has some limitations. Put me on your mailing list for your product.
