Did a search but couldn't find anything. I fueled up for the first time today and when I checked the oil, I was surprised that it was not nearly as black as I had expected. I've had the car for just over a week. The oil was changed by the dealer as part of the prep and the R.O. says that G-052-195-DSP was used, so I know that it is the correct VW 507 compliant oil. I've put around 250 miles on it since the oil change and I thought that the oil would be opaque black like on every other diesel that I have ever seen; car, truck, or boat.

Sorry for all of these questions but I'm just learning this car.

My car took a good 1-2k before it had gotten black from new. I think it got pretty black quicker on the 20 and 30k tho.

Oil changes color more slowly on new cars, or on new engines. Not to worry, it'll go black.

I had the same thoughts in the first few weeks after I bought mine new in May: why isn't the oil black yet!

Well, I'm almost to 10K and it's plenty black now.

I think it's a combination of it being a fairly new engine and the more modern diesels putting less soot into the oil.
