Not Starting - Suspect ASV

Hi Folks,

2006 2.0ltr TDI Jetta. Didn't start this morning so check diesel, ok, then ASV.

ASV is stuck open. Does not close.

When the key is on, but engine off, I can hear the ASV motor humming and it remains open. The motor just keeps going but no movement.

Is the ASV the problem or just a coincidence?

Cheers

The ASV should be open for the car to start.

Really, ASV does serve little to no function in this engine. It is designed for nice shutdown, as well as a measure to stop a runaway but.... The reality is that the ASV stays closed only for 2 seconds or so, under runaway condition this is not enough. Also, even if you have a runaway, the airflow is so intensive that it simply breaks the plastic gearing inside the ASV and lets the air further.
