Weather in Chicago right now varying between sleet, freezing rain and snow.

As we all know, diesels will not warm up at idle in winter, so what do you veteran diesel drivers do to de-ice a frozen windshild on a cold-start situation? (Waiting for somebody to suggest "start by using the ice scraper...")

I've heard that 50/50 mix of vinegar and water can help - but the smell? I'd rather drive a gasser...

Spraying the windsheild with a de-icer solution the night before helps making cleaning easier come morning.

I also park the wipers and lift them off the windsheild.

I also use rain-x, but if sprayed on a cold windsheild it will still frost up as soon as i start moving.

I have also seen where they have these blankets to put on the windshield that you can pull off after the storm. I going to get one of thoses to.
