ANyone know any possible sources for 5cyl tdi like the one they use in the golf rally car? I'm considering a long term project, building up the i5 and a 6speed into a 91 audi coupe quattro..

The Golf kit car is not a 5 cyl TDI. It's a 4-banger 1.9L TDI motor.

Try http://www.partsplaceinc.com/VolkswagenPartsVW.asp A year or so ago they had a couple of I5 cyl 2.5TDI complete with harness computer intercooler etc.
Give em a call. Unfortunately their website is not very user friendly.

"A hard guy to get ahold of" some very unique stuff for US market. There is a post lurking here of someone on your coast who bought Nathan's v6 TDI 4 motion Passat set-up ~$7-8k for components only,IIRC (not a bad deal!) .
