Some aftermarket shop also provide such stereo radios with the same style like OEM ONE, the advantages are that they usually integrates many other userful features and the total price is low such as the seicane S30901 2005-2013 Jetta , seicane S301040 for 2012-2015 Jetta.

Replaced my dead Premium 8 with RNS-315. Good decision!!

I just wanted to come back and update that Barry sent me a new system and I installed it in just a few minutes. Works great so far. Thanks Barry!
Same here. I bought a RNS-315 system to replace the dead Premium 8 system in my 2010 JPW TDI. I traded the 6-disc CD changer for navigation Removing the original system and installing the new would have taken only 5 minutes (10 max) IF I hadn't chosen to enable the RNS-315 Bluetooth features.

I gave up trying to find a clear path from the dash under the carpet to the Bluetooth connector under the front passenger seat. I gave up fishing the wire under the carpeting and just ran it behind the plastic on the center tunnel and out by the sear rail. I could have completed the swap in 10 minutes if I just ran the wire behind the plastic trim in the first place.

Thank you, Barry, for concise instructions too.

My Betta's horn and radio stopped working. When I turn my seat warmer on my screen starts flickering. I don't know if this means if my radio is done or if I have a wiring issue.

Another dead radio here. 2011 Sportwagen with 66,000 miles.

After the radio died and the weather got colder, I was having a hard time starting the car on cold mornings. Then it wouldn't start at all (around 20 deg F) and I got a new battery which I thought would fix the problem completely. It did help but its still been struggling on cold mornings. I noticed earlier in this thread how the defective radios may be drawing on the battery? I'm hoping to go with the Barry fix, but I'm hoping I don't continue to have trouble starting the car. I did read some more info on this site about cycling the glow valves to help with starting on cold mornings and that did seem to help today.

2010 Jetta TDI. Dead Delphi 28242585 at 124,000 miles. Contacted BarryT82 and Crutchfield.com for options. I'll post back with what I choose and how it works out.

'10 JSW TDI radio almost dead

You can add me to the list :( although my issue is slightly different than what others have described

2010 JSW TDI

Turned the car on while driving to dinner and radio was dead. After about 5 min radio came on. After dinner same thing, dead initially and back on after 5-10 minutes. When i got home I turned the car off but hit the power button and the radio stayed on but the screen flickered a bit.

Check the fuses and everything looks good.
Pulled the radio out the dash and connections look good.

Since my radio isn't dead-dead (at least not yet) do you think my issue is the same as everyone else?

BarryT82, still selling?

BarryT82 gives great service!

I have a 2010 Jetta TDI with radio 1K0 035 180 AC and after 169000 miles it quit... found this thread. I posted a PM to BarryT82 and 4 days later I have received from him and installed a newer version of the same radio that works perfectly! Thank you, sir!

I have an rns-315 and gps antenna that I bought from Barry. I removed it from my Beetle because it is going back soon. I am out of town for a bit, but it is available for sale, it has the backup camera attachment also, although I left the camera as to not leave a hole in the bumper. It is in like new condition and I reset it to factory defaults before I removed it. First 200 bucks takes it, but I won't be able to ship for a couple of weeks...Mark P.S. The oem backup camera is available on eBay for around 90 bucks...

Our JSW had a bad battery that most likely killed our RNS315 with all the low voltage issues. Splash screen comes on randomly and shuts off. None of the internet tricks ever worked to hard reset it or shut it off.

101k miles.

Went for an RCD510 AF unit for the HD tuner instead of keeping the Nav options. We will see if my ebay purchase works out.

There she goes

Radi went out on my 2010 jsw yesterday, comes on after the cars running for 5 minutes going to go have the battery tested, if that's not the problem then going on Craigslist or online retailer.

If you can wait a week or so, I have an RNS-315 for sale. It has the back-up camera port and all you would need is the camera, about a 100 bucks on eBay for an OEM VW one. I am in Mexico for a bit more, but I plan to list it on this site when I get back...Mark

Mine died this week. '10 JSW with the touchscreen radio, no nav. I did have it outside the garage for awhile so maybe the heat has something to do with it? Just checking this thread to see if there's a fix. Looks like the "fix" might be getting with BarryT82. ha!

Another one bites the dust

Radio stopped working this week in my 2010 TDI. 'Premium' 8 radio. (I guess 'premium' means that it'll last 50K miles, bc that's how many I have on the car.)
Researched tech bulletins. None. Looked here, tried all the easy fixes. Seems like replacing it myself isn't too difficult. Dealer assessment and replacement @ $600-800 is NOT going to happen.
My concerns: (a) how will I know if the aftermarket radio I purchase will have same phone bluetooth functions and (b) there's no guarantee that this won't happen again, right? and (c) is the current non-operable radio draining my battery? Should I disconnect it now to prevent that? Will removing the fuse prevent this?
Thanks for advice.

(a) that is why I went with getting a used newer model. and also hooking up the wires on a aftermarket can be a nightmare instead of just plugging it in. (b) again I did mine with a newer model that has seemed more reliable. our car came with model number XXXXXX-AC I installed a model XXXXXX-AE. Mine didn't have Nav or backup camera. (c) Depends how the radio failed. some have had the dead radio drawing power running the battery down, but most have not. There are 2 power sources for the radio. a switched wire, (on and off with key) and a hot wire (power all the time) I pulled my radio out and unplugged it waiting for the newer one just to be sure.

replacing it myself was easy. The screws have a star tip type head. If you have a replaceable tip screwdriver that came with a rack of tips, you have them.

Good Luck

Good for you doing it yourself! On the aftermarket option, that install would be more complex than OEM. However, there is a product Crutchfield sells calls an idatalink maestro that will retain your steering wheel controls. If you want simple, get a newer oem unit that has a better track record than these high failure radios.

I'm doing aftermarket because I wanted apple CarPlay and a back up camera, but if you've never installed an aftermarket stereo, it can be pretty crazy.

Thanks guys!

Where do I find a newer OEM unit? How will I know if Mark's radio offer below will work for me?

Hope no CD's in it when it died. I had to go buy another set of star tips to disassemble mine to get the CD's out. didn't have a tip small enough on my set for the inner pieces. took a while and parts all over the tabletop. At least it was a slow day at work so I got paid to do it. guys were all laughing at my mess.

Does anyone know what # the fuses are for the radio for a 2011 Jetta? I read in this thread #57 & #8. It drained my battery already and I need to pull them so it doesn’t happen again before I change it out

Help, my radio died and now my battery keeps running out of juice. Doing the buy back in Sept so just want to keep battery charged. Does taking out the fuses work for the battery drainage problem? I can't believe this is so common, grrrrrr!

Should just be able to pull the fuse on the back of the radio.

Disconnect the quad lock connector, and remove the 10amp fuse

This may not work for all BUT...

My radio in my 2002 Jetta had died twice, both followed by a dead battery. I inspected the battery connection and there was corrosion on the battery. Both times i cleaned the connection and the car cranked up like normal and the radio was fine.

Another dead radio

2011 TDI Sportwagen - Radio and horn not working.

Radio suddenly cut out while we were driving. Similar symptoms as others, in that the bluetooth pairs, but no sound, no lights. Other controls on steering wheel work fine.

Rear seat passenger says she occasionally hears (with younger ears) a brief sound from the speakers, although I could not confirm that from my driver position.

This radio quit happened just a few days after a TDI-specialist shop was diagnosing my horn not working, and traced the probable cause for that horn to an aftermarket wiring harness for a previous owner's remote car starter, which she later had disconnected. I'm rescheduled for that repair next week.

Notable perhaps is that the aforementioned previous owner also complained about pesky battery power loss when parked. The removal of the remote starter unit was part of her attempts to remove the battery drain. I have not experienced this, but my battery is new.

I'll have that harness removed net week and hope it reignites both the horn function and the radio. I'm counting on them to solve this.

If the radio is faulty, and they have no replacement, I'm guessing that an aftermarket unit may be a better solution, so I would value any recommendations on ones that pair well with the existing car's systems, including dashboard display and steering wheel controls.

Q: Is adding a backup camera complex? Is the wiring already there?
