Well, the drama continues..... I just popped a flashing glow plug and CEL on my commute home last night.
Looks like my EGT sensor just crapped out. Time to battle the dealership for warranty work.....
Until I get it in for service, I'm sure active regens will stop, so I should gain some soot & ash loads as a result.... will keep an eye on it.

I've been thinking about this, and I find it odd that I'm still getting EGT readings from that problem sensor on my SGII, but not correct ones.
The readings are mainly "normal", but every few seconds, I'm seeing 1000deg C.
This caused me to start researching how the EGT sensors work, and it appears that the TDI would be using a NTC (negative temperature coefficient) type, whose resistance drops as temperature rises. This leads me to believe that I have a flaky connection or broken wire, which under specific conditions fails to complete the circuit and thus maxxes out the reading. (also confirmed by the Circuit Malfunction VCDS code description)
I will do a log later today to validate what the SGII is reporting as I don't believe that a failed sensor would bounce back-and-forth between reading properly and max value reading.

to be continued.....

After checking my wires and connector, I took it to the dealer and agreed to the obligatory 1hr diagnostic fee, (in the event that it's not a TDI FIX emission covered issue) knowing very well that it is a covered item based on the official documentation. VW ended up replacing the failed sensor at no cost to me and I got my commuter back 2 days later CEL free.
