The Audi Sport site doesn't raise any question about it, although it does say only 2 rather than 3 LMP1s each will be entered for both Audi and Porsche at Le Mans.
I wonder if Audi/VW legal department has pushed Audi Sport for withdrawal from WEC LMP1 this year in light of hostility from European and UK TDI owners over the public perception of less generous owner compensation for the diesel scandal relative to US owners. If there was an internal push, did it reach the level of secret withdrawal discussions with the FIA? Now THAT would be a very unhappy meeting!
If they have no plans to withdraw this year, might they scrap the TDI hybrid in favor of a gas hybrid for next year and beyond?
Withdrawal this year seems pretty unlikely with Silverstone just a month away, but an Audi withdrawal with Porsche staying in the game might be (barely) palatable to the FIA and allow Audi to keep a low profile, achieving a perception of contrition in light of the scandal.
