Loss of boost at high rpm/load - sluggish boost up to 2800rpm

Hi All

What a great site firstly! - Nice to find some good info!

I am hopeful that you will be able to help me with my 1997 A4 Avant TDi (110bhp red eye) - AFN engine.

Having a real headache finding this little problem... The car seems a little sluggish up to 2800 rpm but boosts ok after this. Can be driving around for a while ok, but under load or high gear rpm the turbo gets killed off and 'limp mode' engaged. This can be reset by turning off the engine and restarting. No Smoke, starts first time all the time.

On occaision there is a loud 'SCREEEEEKING' from the engine, and sometimes a 'whistle' from the wastegate on idle (turbo type whistle).

I have read this is a common issue(s) with the TDi and have done the following:

> Replaced the Wastegate N75 valve
> Replaced vacuum lines
> Cleaned the intake - The EGR Valve is blanked off
> VAG-COM gave no errors, no engine checklights have come on at all, starts on the button everytime.
> Full belt and oil/filter service - By the way - whats the best oil? it currently has 5W40 fully synthetic.

What i am propsing to do now:

> Clean the entire Vacuum system again using contact cleaner
> Replacing the vacuum pipe that goes to the ECU (this had black gunk in it)
> Cleaning the intercooler pipes and intercooler (noticed regular build up of this 'black substance')
> Flushing through the N75 valves - both of them

Considering:

Taking the turbo apart and cleaning the actuator veins with carb cleaner
Cleaning through the wastegate

Am i going along the correct line?

Sorry for such a long email for my first post.... needed to get it off my chest :)

Kindest Regards
