New air ducts purchased (replace lower grill

I just purchased new air ducts that replaces my left and right lower grill. They are the ones sold on ebay. I don't understand how they can replace the lower grills, it doesn't seem like they protect anything due to the big holes. SO what exactly are they for? Looks?

yes - looks. The holes actually aren't any bigger than the original grills - there's a lot of open area between the grills!

ah i see, they do look better than the stock grills. Thanks for the help man. When i first put them on, i wasn't sure which side the holes go on but then i looked at that pic of your jetta.
