I have a VW factory recycled 0a4 gearbox with very low miles. It came from a rear ender. There is no way of being 100% sure but my GUESS is has less than 10K on it. 2nd gear engagement teeth look brand new as do the leading edges of the reverse idler. All the rest of the internals look to have been replaced with new. Pics upon request.
I will be installing all new OEM synchros, bearings, gaskets and seals.
It will be upgraded with a mid year 02j diff (18mm x shaft) and final drive, this allow the removal of the factory rivets and an ARP bolt kit will be installed. Yes the rivets still break. We will also put multiple pins in the diff cross shaft. This stops the shaft from walking out and exploding the case.
A near new .658 5th will be installed.
This can be built as an o2a/j or oa4 box.
If it's an 02j the 5th gear oil rail from the 0a4 will be installed. This upgrade doesn't work in the 02a.
