2003 tdi Jetta AC / engine clutch issues

I have 2003 tdi Jetta with 262,484 miles with the original engine clutch. The engine 5 spd clutch works fine w/o the AC on. With the AC on I get a noise when coming to a stop while the engine is coming down with the AC load on the engine. I don't know if the noise is coming from the AC or the engine clutch.. Here's my question... Can the noise be coming from the AC clutch ? I can say the AC works well with no issues.. How can I test the AC and AC clutch to see if that is getting ready to fail?

Yes. An AC clutch can be noisy, but so can the compressor if it's got problems. I am not sure how to isolate the two except to replace just the clutch. The dealer will charge you almost as much for a clutch as for the entire compressor with clutch.
