Greed is the number 1 problem with the world. Yes they want populations to grow so there are more consumers. Greed will continue to ruin life as we know it until its all gone.

There are just too many to list....
Not sure how we got into this but...

Capitalism relies on economic growth, which also relies on population growth. The economic issues that some European have are directly related to too-slow or shrinking populations. Our whole system relies on the next generation being bigger than the one before it.

If we were to talk about slowing population growth, we'd also have to look in the mirror and have a hard conversation about the things that Americans value. You'd have to move to planned economy...

That is the problem, when the economic prosperity gets linked to growth. It happened easily post WWII with the advent of the baby boomers and their rampant runaway wanting for anything and everything within a short period of time. Now that THAT type of growth has leveled off, things have had to change, and change is not always good for everyone. This applies to lots of consumer goods, that really were not consumable items at one time. Everything from vacuum cleaners to lawn mowers. When the growth of the population slows, so that there is no longer an endless stream of buyers for your widget, you then need to make it so that the same people that already bought your widget have to KEEP buying them. Which means they must be made cheap, cheap, cheap. Nobody cares how. China can make your widget it a pollution spewing factory to dodge costs and regulatory hurdles here. And the plastic pieces your widget is made out of can be chucked into a landfill after it breaks in a year. You cannot fix it. You do not even sell parts for it. Heck, you cannot even take it apart TO fix it. Kind of a mess, but that is exactly what has happened.

We have sadly become a throwaway society. Case in point: let's crush a bunch of 50 MPG cars so we can replace them with a bunch of 35 MPG cars! And let's forbid any parts from those perfectly good cars from being recycled, just because of one thing that we already know won't have any real world effect in light of the alternatives.

Need for growth is a big reason why we are promoting illegal immigration. May not work out too well in the end.
