2002 1.9 TDI Injector pump

Can anyone tell me approximately how many footpounds it takes to turn a 2002 TDI 1.9 injection pump on the bench with a 22mm wrench? I've heard everything from it freewheels with little effort to you have to firmly hold the pump down in order to turn it.

To check for abnormal resistance I presume!

They do not freewheel, they turn incrementally hard

Mechanic claims it'll rip the timing belt off because it so hard to turn. It turns at about 15 flubs

It is a pump that creates 25-30k psi so it’s defintaly going to be hard to turn over. As stated above it has a pumping cycle so it has stopping points in the revolutions(if I am saying that correctly).

Never measured it, but it is enough resistance that I put mine in a vice to turn it. Is this a pump that has been sitting or on a car that is being troubleshot?
