2005 beetle tdi, dsg. I work at a church, on Wednesday after service I was coming home and had a wire burning smell. Everything kept working, so I figured there was someone burning something near by. Fast forward to this morning, I crank car but wipers don’t work, nor do turn signals or horn.
I check all fuses there good, pull all relays and inspect them, seem fine. Pulled the ignition switch and there is a burn on one of the prongs. The pigtail had a wire connector holder.
I purchased car with 200,000 miles with a bad ignition switch. I put one from a parts car in it, and it was actually bad. I purchased another car that came with a new switch. I put it in and it lasted the last 23,000 miles. It was a uro parts switch. The uro parts switch is the one that melted.
Anyways today I put a duralast switch in there because it was the only place I could grab one immediately.
Here is the issue, the radio will not turn off, and the windows are constantly with power on them now. I made sure the clip that held the connector witch melted is installed directly on the switch.
So did I just get a bad brand new switch? Is there a relay that may be stuck?
I can unplug the ignition switch and the radio and doors still have power.
