OK 2002 new Beetle, sat for two years, AC blew nice and cold, just did the timing belt, water pump got all the parts from Diesel geek, great to work with by the way. Runs awesome, but AC blows warm. Push AC button fans com on, compressor engages thought low on coolant, Low side (cheap can Gauge) in the red. Reduced pressure, to Green, still no cool. Most posts are compressor not engaging, or no fans, but those work. Any Ideas.

^^ you need to put a set of gauges on it to check the high and low side pressures.

Is the RCV, difficult to replace?
Googling gives you lots of info:

1) You have to purge the freon from the system. Technically, it's illegal to just vent this to the environment.
2) Replace valve.
3) Vacuum system to remove any moisture.
4) Recharge with the correct amount of freon. Probably 750grams. Look in the engine compartment.

Maybe an hour at most to do all of this.

More information about the RCV.

The blend door would just reduce the cold, unless it's broke, not likely.
One plan of attack would be to take it to a pro, have them evacuat the system, drive home change the part, go back and have them refill. In the process they should be able to tell if it leaks or if it's something else. Though some shops will always find something else.
