Diesel Lube Oil Extender

I was at my local Power Service supplier yesterday and
picked up the latest PS Product Catalog. It lists this
diesel lube oil extender.

My diesel engine(soon to be a TDI) is in a Syncro(4X4)
Westfalia which we take on extended trips where getting
proper oil is not easy.

Anybody use this stuff? Gurus who know 'bout chemicals
have an educated opinion?

there are those who use premium synthetic oils and quality oil filters, and are able to leave it for ~15k or more...

Yeah I've been BUSY trying to get this TDI conversion done.

All but raising boost, then the head gasket started to go.
Mileage is pathetic right now, 32-42mpg imp. and I am
procrastinating big time on that cause it still feels
good and tight, starts well on cold mornings. I was ready
to do an intercooler too...oh well maybe next spring.

I think it's the pushing a heavy brick at highway speed for
days followed by serious off-roading in dusty conditions at
high elevation that is stressing even Delvac 1. Every summer
we travel for the full 2 months that school is out and I
can tell the last weeks the oil is ready to retire.

I like the PS products so maybe I'll give this stuff a try.

I will only use Lube Control in my oil from now on. The antioxidant properties in LC make it unlike any product out there www.lubecontrol.com . They also talk about it on the forum mentioned above.

Those additives may be an option for your Syncro(4X4)
Westfalia.
However with a TDI You want to run the VW spec oil for your engine. Addition of additives may take the oil out of spec. Not to worry though. VW suggested oil change interval on a TDI is 16,000 km or one year. At around $6 per liter it should be good stuff!
There are members running well over that with oil analysis.

You never stated what grade oil your were using in your Westfalia. A good grade “synthetic” would be the first steep in achieving longer drain intervals. We all down here in the lower 48 like Mobile 1 Delvac and Amsoil. Elf I gather is a major player in Canada. I'm running Motul in my 04 PD engine.
The Power Service oil extender is sold around here in the Farm supply stores and finds a market with farmers wanting to stretch their tractor out to the end of the season before doing the oil change and put to bed for the winter. More like an crunch fix. I'm sure it's a good product that performs but on a passenger vehicle that is driven year around you just change the oil.
I have to ask. Are you putting a TDI in the Westfalia? If so that would be awesome.

Serge, I've seen the same product on sale at Wallmart(9sic). It is a 3 quart container that is for use in trucks with ~44 quart sumps, therefore if you were to use it in a TDI engine with a 4 quart sump you'd only want to use about 9 fluid oz of the stuff - as to whether it would be good bad or indifferent for your engine is another thing.

One option you might want to consider is a bypass oil filter. This will not only filter out more cr@p from yuor oil but also increase the sump capicity (the solution to pollution is dilution).

Of course how difficult is it to pack 4 quarts of oil & filter and do an oil change at some point during the summer?
