I'd avoid that shop in the future. Making that kind of basic mistake suggests their area of expertise is not focused on CR diesels. Or have dodgy ethics.
The service is due at 192,000 km (120,000 miles).
This is was actually through VW themselves and also quoted me $1900 for timing belt water pump and oil change at 105,000kms

That's alarming.
The TB job isn't overly difficult if you have the tools, time and space. Myturbodiesel.com has a great DIY and vid on youtube.

JSP in Abby only charged me $800 for the TB on the old 2010 GSW. I had it changed @ 120k km but that was more piece of mind than anything else.

For what it's worth... I did mine at 205k km and it (by appearance) could have done another 50-100k km. Car had predominantly highway miles. Not that I'd recommend it, but these kits are much more stout than other VAG engines I've serviced.
