KY emissions testing?

My sister-in-law just moved to KY and needs to have the emissions checked on her car. What's involved? Do desil cars even need to? Thanks!

The only emissions testing in Kentucky is in the larger cities in Northern Kentucky and possibly Louisville.

I think it is just a tailpipe sniffer, but not sure.

In Louisville it's only an opacity test. I guess the fact that you have a diesel is not on the registration or info they pull up at the testing station. When I was tested they couldn't get their equipment to work until I told them it was a diesel. Then they pulled out a separate tail pipe sniffer. My readings was 0%. Emissions testing in Louisville is supposed to stop next month I believe.
