A/C Cut-Off Switch

1999 beetle, TDI. The switch seal was bad. Came apart easy. Went to put it back together and it won't. Switch and seal slide back in, but retaining clip will not slide back into place.
What's the secret?

With-in 1 minute of my head hitting the pillow, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to put the clip in from the wrong direction.
I feel like an idiot.

As if nobody else has felt exactly the same way from time to time? Hey, sounds like you're human after all!
