Hi I wanted to replace the stock filter with a k&N. Should I go with the cone filter or just the drop in. What else should I do while I'm at it. I've been hearing stuff aabout taking of the screens and what not. Can someone please explain? I don't want to lose any fuel economy but want want the engine to be more responsive. Thanks you people are a great crowd

Based on a few owner's experience, there is not much difference in results between the air box K&N (or BMC) and the cone. The cone does get hot air from the engine area especially at idle. But here in cooler weather the diffenence might be not so great. The difference is in looks and price. The cones look cool! But expect to pay maybe $250 CDN verses under $100 for the box one. Don't expect any noticable performance gain with a stock TDI. Your mileage will not go down. As for screens there is so much written. Do a search. There are three. One before the air box and two after. The one before is the worst.

The cone will suck in hot air from the engine compartment.

Better off using the factory air box.
