$1000 loyalty incentive is all we should expect.

It’s here, the month that the TDI buybacks begin! Volkswagen has hired “buyback specialists” to be placed inside the dealership to handle the transactions and we at Hewlett VW were lucky enough to get two. I’ve now met and visited with them and look forward to having them in our store for the next several months. A handful of the appointments will start filtering in over the last few days of November, then come December, the schedule will be full until completed.

It’s my understanding that VW will make eight appointments per day - per specialist, so that means we’ll have 16 per day here at Hewlett VW. (It’s important to remember that without a scheduled appointment, the settlement specialist cannot transact a buyback).

According to the latest numbers from VW, they claim approximately 75% of TDI owners have registered. While that sounds astonishing, it does leave 25% who have not. Please, if you have not gone online to the website to register, I encourage you to do so now, regardless of which choice you decide. www.vwcourtsettlement.com

Many of you have asked if there are any special considerations or incentives from VW if you were to purchase another vehicle at the time of the buyback. The short answer is yes but it comes with a disclaimer. VW cannot offer special incentives specifically for TDI owners. Therefore, while the incentive(s) may be called or labeled “loyalty”, it has to be offered to everyone owning a Volkswagen of any kind. The courts will not let the manufacturer or the dealer market to TDI customers specifically, so everyone who owns a VW can take advantage of any “loyalty” incentives. Everyone wins and everybody gets the extra incentives.

We here at Hewlett VW have actually stocked up and have over 300 new vehicles on the ground that are ready for sale now. Plus, VW has in excess of 10,000 additional vehicles at port that we can pull from to refill any inventory voids that the buyback process may develop.

I know this has been a long process and I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am for your patience and loyalty during this time. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving,

John Chauvin, General Manager
I saw this on the facebook group, so reposting here. I think I understand now - even though the court language just says VW can't persuade people to take the buyback over the fix - I guess if they had a TDI only incentive, it could be viewed as hoping people would take the buyback over the fix - so they have to offer the incentives to ALL VW owners. Since we have seen the past 2 months have $1000 VW loyalty incentives, I'm guessing next month will have the same - and that's it. Don't expect anything else.

Except that when we bought our Passat on Valentine's day 2015, VW had a crazy incentive package in excess of $3,000 -- it may have been approaching to $4k.

That's in addition to loyalty bonuses and whatever else you can do at the dealership level. Timing is everything.

The difference in GTI pricing between east and west coast dealers was several thousands of dollars, so $1000 didn't budge me in the least. However after you do the transaction it will be interesting if they chase you out the door with a please don't leave without an extra $2500 we love you bonus. Don't forget dealers are getting money from VW Directly.

Thanks for posting. I wonder how long loyalty bonus will last. Seems they have cars stocked up for this. I wonder what percentage will return to VW.

I was at a VW dealer this weekend to drive a 2017 passat se sedan to decide if that would make the short list , sticker said 26, and change , no tech package and there were willing to go down to $22,500 using what ever rebates they had, no idea if it was a good deal or not, it was a DSG auto, I was not researching price on them. BTW is was OK nothing great and did not make the short list.

Gone but not forgotten
I am seeing $3K off on Alltracks and $4k on GSW4MO's in SF, the latter includes the extra $1K.

Anyone know if the loyalty discount does in fact expire at the end of the month? I was in the VW dealer closest to me yesterday (which I don't particularly like) and the sales manager gave me the hard sell, claimed the loyalty discount is going away at the end of the month and prices will be higher in December, and then quoted me a price about $4000 higher than I have seen from other dealers. Huge turnoff and is making me rethink my decision to consider another VW as a replacement. Definitely not buying from them.

Maybe if they add another 0 to that $1000, we can have a conversation, but otherwise i am on my way to the Subaru dealer.

yes, it expires at the end of the month...that being said, they also had it during October...so I am guessing it will be extended for another month (and probably for a few months after)

Gotta agree VW is gonna lose a bunch of us bc they really do not seem to win our business back as repeat customers, I would have consider another VW if they gave me a great deal, the dealers I have gone to have not even offered me a good deal, I understand this is costing them a small fortune but it seems like they just expect us to roll into another VW and be happy about it. Short sighted I think on their part but that is their choice, I am onto another brand.

I like to think I'm delusional to actually wish VW would do $5000 loyalty incentive for 2017 Golf R's

Only that will happen in La La Land. In reality, no good loyalty incentives.......see ya later VW

As the first person to turn in a car on here, VW lost my business to FCA.. I wanted to stay with VW but they did not make it worth it..

I was going to go with a Tiguan , but ended up with a Cherokee (its a Fiat right :) )

Hah, yeah. There are no real incentives / discounts on a top vehicle like that. Just ask the Ford Focus RS folks. Or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
A VW dealer told me they didn't have a Golf GTI Autobahn on hand in black, but just took delivery of a black automatic Golf R, and was I interested? I told them, "Only if you can knock about $10k off the MSRP listed there."
His answer?
"T, if I could do that, I'd be driving a Golf R myself."

Can't blame a gal for trying. ;)

But yeah, cars like that typically end up selling for at or near MSRP...sometimes even with a mark-up for some kind of demand!

A VW dealer in Sacramento was offering $6000 discounts on all new cars last week. I received an email from them with the offering. I live in Texas but had tried to buy a low mileage 2014 VW JSW TDI from them back in July. They wanted more than I was willing to pay so finally gave up on them and bought an Audi.

The dealer name is Nielo VW in Sacramento. I posted the link here but it was moved (disappeared?) by moderators.

It's still showing up on Truecar, so probably the answer is "yes".
probably.
I've seen Truecar is slow to update for a couple days after offers end btw...

The 1000 loyalty is showing up on VW's special offers page again now, along with all the sign-then-drive incentives, BUT they are listed as good through today (Dec 1st) lol.

I'm assuming this is a typo, and they meant 31st or Jan 1st?

Maybe he's saying the dealer was too chicken to offer anything better?
I dunno about the pecking order between VW and the dealers on this, but...
Settling for something like this really grinds my gizzard!
Hoping I find the huevos to get a better deal when it's my time...
But, you know, I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatch-backed! ;)
Just hoping my car doesn't run a-fowl of anything between now and the turn in date! Wish I could just keep it cooped up until then.
Okay, okay, I'll stop now. I know. I should be tarred and feathered for this.
*runs off cackling*

More power to those seeking bigger discounts, but really, buy the car that appeals to you most at the price you think is worth it. Any discount is just a marketing scheme, and could generally be gotten via negotiation anyway.

VW dealer in AL was offering $5k off MSRP during the last week of Nov. so I jumped on that and got a 2017 Passat SEL Premium 1.8t for a great deal. The buyback amount I'm getting is $26,957 and the OTD price for the new car was $28,640. Great guys to work with as well. We arranged everything over the phone and all we had to do was sign the papers and take the new ride.

Love the new car as well. The tech in the new Passat is super nice. Back up camera comes on when I put it into reverse (as opposed to when I'm already out of the parking spot). It has blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, park pilot, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and android auto/apple car play. Heated rear seats, LED head lights, tail lights and DRLs (need to replace fog lights with LED bulbs).

Now TDI-free, but there now is a 15 MB E250 BT in the driveway
Fixed that for you, unless you intended to reference domestic fowls. :p
Maybe he really meant poultry or something associated with them -- as in chicken s---! That's way below paltry.

If you don't mind me asking, which dealership did you use? I'm in NW Alabama.

FYI my local dealer (Heritage VW) removed the $1000 incentive from all of their "internet prices" (which includes all incentives) - looks like it may not be a thing for december. I emailed them to find out.
